Series: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

Age: physically in his early twenties, around 22 years old

Species: human/Jenova virus hybrid (Canonically, he is a Shinentai, or Remnant - a part of Sephiroth resurrected as living, sentient flesh. To maintain continuity with

loz_wolf and

dispiteous, he believes himself to be a lab-raised clone, when in fact he was born from the Lifestream itself and is in reality only two years old.)

Sexuality: "Brothersexual" - he's simply not going to invest himself emotionally or sexually with persons other than Loz and Kadaj (and to some extent, Sephiroth and Cloud), at least not initially.

Appearance: Like his brothers, Yazoo is fair-skinned and has silver hair and eyelashes. His hair is worn quite long, down to roughly mid-back (presumably this is its natural length, as it doesn't appear to be regularly trimmed), and like younger brother Kadaj's, it makes up in luster and manageability what it lacks in volume. A few wayward strands, shorter than the rest, fall across his field of vision. Yazoo's pale turquoise eyes are slit-pupilled like a cat's, a hallmark of those with Jenova cells, and glow in poor lighting (evidence of Mako treatment - more info on this in History). He is left-handed.

Yazoo is more fine-boned than either of his brothers, and considerably less muscular than Loz, though he's very well toned. He's built for speed and agility over strength. Though he's of average height, Yazoo looks smaller than he is because of his slender build and almost effeminate features. Despite how delicate he appears, anyone watching him will note that he moves with certainty and purpose; he knows his limits and is careful not to exceed them, but carries himself with confidence.

Of the three Shinentai, Yazoo is the most outwardly restrained. He keeps his voice and expression measured and can be difficult to read. Canonically, he embodies Sephiroth's "allure" (Loz and Kadaj are, respectively, "strength" and "cruelty"). This manifests as a feline sort of beauty, smug and self-aware and not a little predatory. Yazoo is graceful in almost everything he does, never wasting energy - he is precise in what he does and says, and appears somewhat detached, even cold. His brothers, of course, can read him so well that he doesn't need to put into words much of what he wants to convey... and no one else matters.

He has very expressive hands.

Though practicality may force him into less striking outfits sooner or later, Yazoo's canon clothing is the same as his brothers': black leather, and lots of it. From the bottom up, he wears black shin-high boots, highly polished, black leather pants, and an ankle-length tooled-leather trenchcoat. The outfit is completed by thin leather gloves and (presumably) a skin-tight black shirt to keep the jacket from chafing. This ensemble has the effect of covering everything below his neck, affording Yazoo some slight protection in a fight... and adding to the air of mysterious allure he cultivates.

He has a tattoo of the number twelve in dark blue ink on the bottom of his right foot.

Personality: Outwardly, Yazoo is cold and aloof, and seems more mature than his brothers. While he's more given to observation and thought, and as a result tends to make more informed choices, he still suffers from the same lack of experience and emotional growth that his brothers do. He enjoys baiting his opponents, and always manages to come off as just a little bit smug - rather like a cat. He'll often remain silent and let his brothers do the talking, only to jump in when it's least expected with a snide remark.

Beneath his graceful facade, however, Yazoo is a deeply insecure individual who finds his purpose in life through his brothers. Though he doesn't actively seek praise, he thrives on the knowledge that he serves a useful function for his fellow Shinentai, especially Loz. Though fiercely and unquestioningly loyal to Kadaj, Yazoo feels a stronger personal bond with Loz, who relies on him intellectually the same way that Yazoo relies on him physically. They counter each other's weaknesses.

In battle, Yazoo will never hesitate to incapacitate, if not outright kill, a troublesome opponent. He does enjoy play, but likes a mental challenge almost as much as a physical one, and so he isn't as determined as his brothers to draw out a good fight.

It could be said that Yazoo's moral compass is somewhat unreliable, or perhaps that he doesn't have one at all - the truth of it is that, with the exceptions of his brothers and Mother (and Sephiroth), he views people as inferior and disposable. Interactions with normal humans are a means to an end. He could, over time and given the right opportunities, learn otherwise, but his experiences so far have never required him to seek interaction outside of his zone of comfort.

Abilities: Yazoo is an excellent marksman with a gunblade, and is deadly with almost any firearm. He can also fight with close-range bladed weapons (knives and small swords). His focus in a fight is on precision rather than brute strength, on avoiding his enemies' strikes rather than enduring them. He often uses speed and accuracy to great advantage in combat, coming in right behind his elder brother's powerful attacks or ducking around projectiles and debris to minimize the time in which his opponent can react to them.

It can be inferred, given the brothers' nature as physical representations of the three facets of Sephiroth's persona, that Yazoo is the "mind" aspect of the trio. He's a fast learner and is gifted with words. He considers the possible repercussions of his actions before he takes them and can manipulate people almost as well as his younger brother Kadaj, though he doesn't seem to derive the same pleasure from it.

Like Loz, he is a skilled traceur (I'm shamelessly following

loz_wolf's lead here XD).

In his canon, Yazoo was able to summon creatures to assist him in combat, and (presumably) could also cast spells like Cure to repair injuries sustained by himself or his brothers. Obviously, these skills are useless in Manhattan, where he won't have access to Materia. Still, he's been without magical aids often enough that he can effectively clean and dress most kinds of combat wounds until better care is available, including venomous animal bites and stings; he wouldn't be able to do anything for a crab bite's longterm effects, but he would know to seek help for himself if he were bitten.

In Manhattan, Yazoo is only marginally more acrobatic than a skilled human athlete, though he's still an excellent sprinter and able to keep up light exertion (walking, running, moving through difficult terrain) for extended periods of time on minimal food and water. This is primarily thanks to his SOLDIER training.

He can pull off ridiculously complicated and dangerous maneuvers on a motorcycle, and given his excellent reflexes and sharp mind, could probably learn to use military-grade vehicles or even tanks if such were available.

Weaknesses: His strength and stamina don't begin to measure up to his older brother's, meaning that Yazoo has to be far more conscious of how much damage he sustains in a fight. He's hard to hit, but a blow that does connect stands a fair chance of causing significant injury. He is very much aware of his perceived shortcomings in this area.

Yazoo is highly self-critical. If he makes a mistake, even a small one, the guilt and shame he feels over it will be disproportionate to the actual amount of damage caused by his error.

Like his brothers, Yazoo tends to see everyone outside of his "family" as inferior. He won't make friends easily, if at all, and in light of the point in canon he's taken from, is liable to resist any attempts made by Loz to invite "non-family" into the picture - having lost one brother, he'll be even more jealous of Loz than he would've been previously.

Despite seeming to be in control of himself emotionally, Yazoo is psychologically unstable, moreso now that he's witnessed his brother Kadaj's transformation and subsequent death - and, through their link, partially experienced Kadaj's "reunion" with Jenova's remains. He holds himself together reasonably well, but if put under enough stress, Yazoo could and probably would come unravelled.

He doesn't accept authority the way Loz does, and will therefor feel Kadaj's absence as a keen loss of purpose and drive. He won't know what to do with himself.

Manhattanite or outsider? outsider

History: (Please reference Starherd's fic "Wolfsong" for a detailed account of Yazoo's pre-canon life and interactions with his brothers as he recalls them. Be aware that it includes graphic violence and some very obvious, if not unnecessarily detailed, yaoi.)

Yazoo believes he was born and raised in a lab facility belonging to the Shinra Electric Power Company, notorious for experimenting to create supersoldiers and for using Mako, the life energy of the planet, as an energy source for profit.

It's likely, in Yazoo's mind, that he and his brothers were created in much the same way as Sephiroth, given the initial success of that project. Yazoo doesn't know the details, whether he's a modified clone of the much-famed, much-feared Sephiroth or simply was subjected to the same treatments that created Sephiroth. At some point, and probably repeatedly over the years, he was given Mako treatments to enhance his abilities (standard for Shinra's elite SOLDIERS), which has the side effect of making the eyes glow faintly.

Yazoo spent his early childhood alone. He was introduced to Loz sometime before puberty, and the two learned to fight as a pair during their formative years. (This is why they continue to fight as a twosome even as adults; they function best as a set with Kadaj directing them. Also, through the pull of their Jenova cells to one another, they're able to react to each other almost instantly, making them extremely effective fighters.) It was when Kadaj joined them that they understood, through him, their purpose - to find Jenova, their "mother," and achieve Reunion. (Kadaj probably has a higher percentage of Jenova cells than either of his brothers, which explains why he is the most attuned to what the boys believe is Mother's voice. Yazoo gets flashes of her presence, but relies on Kadaj to interpret.)

...The truth is, everything that Yazoo remembers of his past is false. His memories are a fabrication based on Sephiroth's early life and knowledge of Shinra practices, and their purpose is to allow Yazoo and his brothers to function as adults despite being chronologically only two years old. Even the tattoo on Yazoo's foot is "fake" - should he ever learn (and believe) the truth that he arose directly from the Lifestream after Sephiroth's death, the tattoo would fade away.

When Cloud killed Sephiroth, the Shinentai were created, coming into the world with false memories that allowed them to continue his quest. Two years later, they found what they had been looking for - a tiny box containing what was purported to be Jenova's head - only to lose it in a fight against a group of Shinra's thugs, the Turks. Thus began the events of the movie.

Finally, Kadaj was able to reclaim Jenova's remains, and attempted to escape with them, with Cloud Strife (the main character of the game and hero of the movie) hot on his heels. A motorcycle chase followed, with Kadaj in the lead, and Loz and Yazoo dogging Cloud and trying to slow him down. The chase took them through a tunnel, and when Loz and Yazoo followed Cloud out of it, two of the Turks (Reno and Rude) detonated bombs that nearly killed the brothers.

After struggling to catch up with Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz arrived in time to witness their little brother die in Cloud's arms. Yazoo shot him, and with the last of their strength, he and Loz prepared to fight Cloud to the death. They loosed their magical attacks on him, and the force of all three strikes combined created an explosion which, by rights, should have killed them all.

And then Yazoo woke up.

He will arrive in Manhattan confused, weaponless, and still reeling from the loss of his brother - only to be assaulted by the distant, familiar presence of Sephiroth drowning out everything else and making it impossible for him to sense Loz, Cloud, or anyone else with Jenova cells. Yazoo is also injured - not mortally wounded, but he won't be in any shape to fight, especially with his left arm (his dominant arm) broken.
